We Are Karen

VIctoria Government / City of Greater Bendigo

The Karen people, an ethnic group that have been displaced from their homeland due to the worlds longest-running civil war in Myanmar are scattered throughout out this world via refugee settlement programs. The majority live within Thailand's overpopulated camps where they continue with life as best they can while waiting for a better future or new beginnings on another landmass entirely - not knowing if it will ever come.

Over 2000 Karen refugees have chosen to make their home in Bendigo, Australia. The region is proud of this incredible Asian culture and they're integrating with locals like never before!

'We Are Karen' is a short documentary about how and why the migration of the Karen people from Myanmar to Bendigo has been a big success.
